From April 27 to May 5, a series of uninterrupted curtailments of photovoltaic and wind power plants took place, also including four days at the end of April. During this period, wind farms were curtailed on April 28, May 1, May 2, and May 5. The most significant curtailment occurred on May 1, when photovoltaic power plants were shut down from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, lasting for 11 hours.

During this time, between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM, PSE, the transmission system operator, decided to disconnect as much as 4,749 MW of photovoltaic power, which corresponds to nearly 75% of their maximum disconnectable capacity (according to ARE data from February 2024).

Additionally, on May 1 and 2, energy prices on the market dropped below zero, and on May 5, they approached zero. Such situations pose significant challenges for the energy sector, emphasizing the need for more sustainable solutions in managing the electrical grid, production, and electricity distribution.
